Purpose of Paper

This paper explores the gyil xylophone of Ghana and the gambang xylophone of Bali, Indonesia through comparison of instrument construction and tuning systems. Mostimportantly, the comparison is made inlight of indigenous conceptualizations. Two different culture of Gyil and Gambang The similarities of the gyil and gambang are interesting phenomena to examine because they have similar form, are from different places, and different cultures. However, when comparing gyil and gambang instruments we must consider cultural issues becuase occaisonally shared cultural practices have led to strikingly similar instrument features.
